Workshop Overview – The Language of Mental Health

There remains a lot of stigma around mental health. As a result, many suffer in silence – like a former colleague of mine who was lost to suicide. But it doesn’t have to be that way. A little ‘regular maintenance’ in the form of education, inspiration, practical tools and open communication can go an awfully long way.

In this 2 hour workshop, you’ll learn that a lot of the stigma around mental health results from not knowing what to say, not understanding the impact of the words we do say and how to openly and non-judgmentally hear those words when they’re brought up in conversation. In a safe and non-critical environment, participants will learn that every word holds meaning and it’s crucial to understand the gravity of language and it’s impact on mental health.

In her 15+ years of experience as an HR professional, finance and project management consultant and communications specialist, Lindsay Recknell brings well-rounded professional experience to the conversation around mental health. As the wife of a recovering alcoholic, Lindsay brings first-hand knowledge of the impacts of untreated mental illness and its effects on the workplace.
